No Joy Division album is perfect, so you need all four original Factory Records releases. Unknown Pleasures is a classic even if the still learning band were overwhelmed by Hannent's famous production. Closer is incredible and heartbreaking, but doesn't include the classic singles. Substance has the classic non album singles along with rarities/5().

The "Substance" CD contains a good collection of often-heard and rarely-heard Joy Division songs. It's interesting how the vocal style changed (for the better, to me) in a short period of time, and how the playing and song-writing evolved quickly as well. I wish the sound quality was a little better, but a future remastering may address this/5().
